Mallery joins 1,000-pt. club

Susquehanna Community senior Cole Mallery reached 1,000 career points on Monday night as the Sabers took a 54-41 victory over Mountain View on their home court.

Mallery hit the milestone with a layup in the second quarter, while helping his team earn the victory with 16 points.

He hit seven shots and went two-for-four from the foul line on Monday night.

The Sabers opened to an 11-10 deficit after the first quarter, but went on to hold a 26-23 lead by halftime.

Mountain View then took 40-38 advantage going into the third quarter by outscoring the Sabers 17-12.

However, Josh Wheeler sparked a fourth-quarter rally for the Sabers scoring all of his seven points in the final minutes as Susquehanna went on a 16-1 run to take the win.

Andrzej Tomczyk scored 15 points for the Sabers, while Dan Biegert added eight.

Mountain View was led by Brett Crowley, who scored 15 points for the Eagles while Nick Schermerhorn added 13 points.

Also, last week the Susquehanna boys’ basketball team dealt Forest City a 73-54 loss on the road on Tuesday night.

The Sabers topped the Foresters 22-15 in the first and 15-4 in the second to hold a 37-19 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Sabers paced Forest City 25-8 in the third and despite a 27-point fourth for the Foresters, the Sabers took the win.

Tomczyk scored 25 points and Mallery added 22 to lead Susquehanna.

Forest City’s Matt Nevins scored 24 while Vince Delucy had 13.

Elk Lake

The Elk Lake boys’ basketball team defeated Blue Ridge, 58-48, on the road on Friday, took a 72-47 victory over Forest City at home on Wednesday after a 78-43 victory over Mountain View on the road on Tuesday night.

On Friday night, the Warriors came out to an early lead with a 15-9 run in the first quarter and went on to hold a 24-18 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Warriors paced the Raiders 21-14 and despite the Raiders pacing Elk Lake 16-13 in the fourth, went on to take the win.

Tanner Reyan scored 24 points to lead the Warriors while Matt Woolcock had 10 and Pete McGee chipped in nine.

Blue Ridge was paced by Sawyer Dearborn’s 31 points and 10 rebounds while Mike Gathany chipped in six.

Against Forest City, the Warriors got ahead early with a 25-8 run in the first quarter before pacing the Foresters in the second to hold a 47-18 lead at the half.

In the third, Forest City paced the Warriors 15-14 and despite a 14-11 run for the Foresters in the fourth, Elk Lake hung on to win.

Tanner Reyan led all scorers with 20 points and Matt Woolcock and Pete McGee each added 13.

On Tuesday, Elk Lake opened to outscored the Eagles 13-9 in the first quarter before leading the way 20-10 in the second to hold a 33-19 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Warriors paced Mountain View 25-11 in the third and 20-13 in the fourth to cap the win.

Tanner Reyan scored 28 points and Rob Heft hit seven three-pointers and scored 27 points to lead Elk Lake.

Pete McGee added 11 and Nick Dudock scored six.

Mountain View was led by Nick Schermerhorn with 10 while Derek Bradley and Brett Crowley each had eight.

Mountain View

The Mountain View boys’ basketball team faced a 45-35 loss to Lackawanna Trail on Saturday after it took a 61-55 victory over Blue Ridge on the road on Wednesday.

On Saturday, the Lions got out to an early lead, pacing the Eagles 15-13 in the first quarter and held a 25-22 lead by halftime.

Trail then outscored the Eagles 9-6 in the third and 11-7 in the fourth to take the victory.

Mountain View was paced by 12 points from Brett Crowley and 11 points from Nate Goodenough.

Against Blue Ridge, Mountain View opened up to lead the Raiders 19-13 in the first quarter before holding a 38-32 lead by halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles paced Blue Ridge 15-13 in the third and after a 10-8 fourth, the Eagles took the win.

Brett Crowley scored 18 points to lead the Eagles while Nate Goodenough and Nick Schermerhorn each added 13.

Sawyer Dearborn led the Raiders’ effort with 20 points while Mike Gathany added 14.

Montrose

The Montrose Area boys’ basketball team took a 61-55 victory over Susquehanna at home on Friday after the team faced a 65-24 loss at Holy Cross on Wednesday night.

The Meteors also took a 56-50 win over Blue Ridge at home on Tuesday night.

On Friday, Montrose outscored the Sabers 18-14 in the first and went on to hold a 29-24 lead by the half.

In the second half, Susquehanna paced Montrose 20-14 in the third, but the Meteors put the game away with an 18-11 fourth quarter.

Cameron Dean scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Meteors to the win. Brenton Warner added 12 points and Erik Burgh chipped in nine.

Susquehanna’s Andrzej Tomczyk scored 21 points to pace the Sabers while Cole Mallery had 18 and Mark Zappe had seven.

Facing Holy Cross, the Crusaders paced the Meteors 23-4 in the first and held a 37-11 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Holy Cross put up a 19-2 third quarter over Montrose to seal the victory.

Will Ely and Cameron Dean led the Meteors with six apiece while Brenton Warner put in three points.

Against Blue Ridge, the Meteors led early on as they paced the Raiders 18-8 in the third and 16-12 in the second to hold a 34-20 halftime lead.

In the second half, Blue Ridge outscored the Meteors 13-8 in the third and 17-14 in the fourth, but Montrose hung on to win.

The Meteors were paced by Cameron Dean’s 28 points while Brenton Warner had eight and Lance Nealy scored six.

Blue Ridge was paced by Sawyer Dearborn with 25 points while Chris Carlsen scored eight and Mike Gathany and Brad Palmatier each had six.

Forest City

The Forest City boys’ basketball team was handed a 47-41 loss from Carbondale on the road on Saturday.

The Foresters opened to an early 11-5 lead and held a 17-10 advantage at halftime.

However, Carbondale used a big 24-6 third quarter to get an advantage on the Foresters and despite Forest City outscoring the Chargers 18-13 in the fourth fell short.

Vince DeLucy led Forest City with 10 points while Matt Nevins, J. Darrenkam,p and J. Korty each scored eight.
