Susquehanna Community graduate Brent Soden from the class of 2004, was the guest speaker at the local Chapter of the National Honor Society induction ceremony.
Held on April 11, in the Helen Gulley Auditorium, new inductees, class of 2016, were: John Abruzzo, Hannah Day, Garrett Grausgruber, Evan Haley, Jessica Lamb, and Saige Perry.
Those retaining membership in the NJHS, members of the class of 2017, were: Daniel Braun, Cori Glidden, Kaitlyn Gow, Alyssa Hubal, and Miranda Rhone.
Following the introduction of the speaker by Glidden, Soden, an SCHS teacher, urged the students to feel passion about something. Homework is a requirement for his class, he said, but feeling passionate about what appeals to you is more important than homework.
Soden spoke of his coaching and his enjoyment from that, but his real passion is volunteering with the fire department. When he answers a fire call at 2 a.m., he knows he is giving back to his community.
The speaker urged the students to work hard to achieve their goals and always remember, “You are the best this school has to offer.”
Taking part in a lighting ceremony were: Alyssa Hubal (Knowledge and Leadership); Miranda Rhone (Scholarship and Character); Daniel Braun (Service); and Kaitlyn Gow (Citizenship).
Saige Perry delivered the welcome as the program began and Hannah Day gave the closing remarks. Special thanks were given to Sydney Avery and Clayton Hansen for the music, processional and recessional and the singing of the Alma Mater; Mrs. Kristi Rossi and students for reception; and a special thank-you to Soden for being the guest speaker.
