A Hallstead-area man was arrested Monday in connection with the January Great Bend Twp. hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 20-year-old pedestrian, Earl Lyman Youngs.
Roger Radakovich, 25, turned himself in Monday to New Milford District Court where he was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Jodi Cordner.
Radakovich was charged by Cpl. Michael Joyce with homicide by vehicle; accidents involving death of personal injury; involuntary manslaughter; operating a motor vehicle without insurance and other related charges.
On Jan. 15, state police responded to a report of a body lying in the grass on the side of Route 11, in Great Bend Twp., near Valley Lanes.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, witnesses said a silver SUV had stopped near the place Youngs’ body was discovered and then left the scene.
After police asked the public for information, a caller to the Gibson barracks related that Radakovich owned a silver Jeep Liberty.
Troopers responded to the Radakovich residence and saw the hood of the vehicle was damaged on the right side and the antenna was bent.
Radakovich and the vehicle were then taken to the Gibson barracks, according to police.
The investigation determined Radakovich was traveling south on Rt. 11 in the Jeep Liberty at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 as Youngs was walking south, also in the southbound lane.
According to police, Youngs was struck by the vehicle’s right front end and he contacted the roof and windshield. As the vehicle continued southbound, Youngs’ body came off the vehicle and into the grass off the west side of the roadway. Radakovich fled the scene of the crash.
Following his appearance in New Milford District Court, Radakovich was released on unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 17.
