West Chester University sophomore guard Dallas Ely, of Montrose, was named to the first team 2013-14 Daktronics, Inc., NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball All-Atlantic Region squad it was announced Thursday afternoon.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Atlantic Region schools and conferences (PSAC, MEC, CIAA) selected the two Daktronics, Inc., all-region teams. The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month. Ely and the rest of the first team selections now move on to the national ballot for an opportunity to be an All-American.
Ely led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in scoring this winter, averaging 19.4 points per game. Her 543 points are the second most in a single season in school history; as are her 73 3-point baskets made; and 218 3-pointers attempted.

Ely is the first Golden Rams player to lead the conference in scoring in head coach Deirdre Kane’s 27 years at the helm. Her 19.4 points per game average is the third-highest in a single season at West Chester.

In addition to her scoring, Ely also ranked second on the team and fourth in the PSAC in steals per game (2.5). Her 35.5 minutes player per game average led the conference, and her 993 minutes played was second.

The sophomore stepped into the role of point guard at the beginning of the year when West Chester’s top two options at that position were unable to play. She turned in one of the best seasons by a Golden Rams player in school history as a result.

Ely led West Chester to a 19-9 overall mark and 13-3 record in the PSAC Eastern Divison.

The Rams finished in second place and received a first-round bye in the PSAC Tournament. West Chester defeated Kutztown at home in the quarterfinals, before falling to No. 25 Edinboro on the road last Saturday in the semifinals.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
