Susquehanna native, Marist Brother Patrick McNamara has been appointed to serve on the Marist International Solidarity Foundation delegation to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, effective October 1.

Brother Patrick will complete his term as President at Marist High School, Chicago, Ill., on July 1.

A graduate of Laurel Hill Academy, Susquehanna and Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY, Brother Patrick’s career in education has taken him to many areas of the United States and now to Switzerland. Brother Patrick served schools in Chicago, New York City, Mississippi before he served as Provincial Superior for the Marist Brothers Province in USA for six year.
Following that appointment, he continued his service to the education of children at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida for seven years and lately as President at Marist High School in Chicago.

The newest assignment will see Br. Pat promoting the rights of children and young people especially those who are in situations of greatest vulnerability. According to Superior General Brother Emili Turu, “we are convinced that the appointment of Brother Patrick will continue to strengthen our mission among children and youth before the United Nations”.

“I am surprised, yet delighted to be appointed to serve with an international community in France and at the United Nations in Geneva. As a French major at Marist College, it was always suggested that I work for the UN; it only took 40 years to get there,” Brother Pat said.

Brother Patrick is the son of Mary McNamara, West Main Street, Susquehanna and the late Robert McNamara, Sr. Like his father, he inherited the Irish wit and love of music, making him a joy to be around regardless of the situation. “I loved growing up in Susquehanna and still see the world from West Hill,” Brother Pat said.
