Republican County Chairman Mike Redding opened the Lincoln Day program, held at the Harford Fire Hall on March1, by asking Jason Legg to give the blessing and Dave Darrow to lead the pledge to the flag.
Susquehanna County Council of Republican Women’s President Marion O’Malley invited all of the women present to support SCCRW by not only joining but to also attend the regular meetings held the fourth Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Green Gables in New Milford.
O’Malley spoke about the three events sponsored by the SCCRW; they include the Spring Fashion Show, the summer picnic and the Christmas party. One of the organizations projects is the Teddy Bear Campaign. Members supply teddy bears to the Pennsylvania State Police and other agencies where children are involved. The aim is to provide comfort while a child is facing a stressful situation, like being removed from their home. SCCRW also awards a scholarship to a graduating senior planning to attend college.
State Senator Lisa Baker, State Representatives Sandra Major and Tina Pickett all thanked the Harford Fire Company for the great breakfast and expressed their appreciation for all the support they have received in the past and asked the party faithful to once again sign their petitions and to get out the vote.
It was brought to those attending what it would cost taxpayers, $6 billion, to replace the volunteers who provide the fire protection to the communities and the emergency medical personnel willing to be on call 24/7.
Harry Forbes represented Gov. Tom Corbett and he too thanked the members of the Republican party and the county committee members for the volunteering and hard work that has enabled Susquehanna County to set a course for a brighter future grounded in the principals of less taxes and more jobs. He asked for their help in sharing his positive message with the people of Susquehanna County.
Congressman Tom Marino thanked the voters of Susquehanna County for the support he has received in the past and asked them once again to support his efforts to gain a third term. He urged the women, who he called the “CEO’s” of every household and the young people to get involved in politics.
County Commissioner Alan Hall followed the congressman to the podium and spoke of the great accomplishments that have occurred at the county level. Taxes have been reduced by $200,000 and the retirement fund is moving toward being self-sustained. According to Hall, the county has no debt. He spoke of the challenges Mary Evans faced in her department but these were made with out raising taxes.
The county Republican executive committee was introduced by Chairman Redding: Vice-Chairman Carolyn Paccio;; Secretary Craig Benson; Treasurer Matthew Fearnley; State Committee Diane Burman and David Darrow; John Kameen; C-Club President Raymond Smith; Richard Nasser; Sherry Hawk; Republican Women President Marion O’Malley.
The committee for this very successful event were: Commissioner Alan Hall, Donna Cosmello and Dave Darrow.
