2014 Sabers

AUSTIN WHITE

AUSTIN WHITE

Austin White, Quarterback, senior: “We have most of the team back. I am really comfortable in the system now. I know the plays, and I know the reads. I am ready to go this year.”

Scouting report
White was a Division III first-team all-star at quarterback. He ran for 812 yards and 16 touchdowns, and passed for 388 yards and four touchdowns. However, he did throw eight interceptions. A year older and a year stronger and faster, White will be the epicenter of the offense and can keep a defense on its toes with his deceptive execution of the option.

BACKS
It is no secret the Sabers want to run the ball. Running back Austin Felter rushed for 355 yards and four touchdowns. Fullback Brett Hepler, who was a District 2 champion in the discus and a Division III first-team all-star, has the strength to run in between the tackles. Last season, he had 579 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Jarred Mills is an exciting newcomer.

RECEIVERS
While the Sabers are committed to running the football, their passing game is also effective. Receivers Craig Stanley and Austin Darrow are returning starters and fast targets.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Despite having a lot of talent in the backfield, the Sabers have some retooling to do up front. Evan Aldrich and Christian Miller are returning starters and solid leaders.

DEFENSIVE LINE
Miller was one of the most dominant defensive ends and pass rushers last season, and earned Division III first-team honors.

C.J. Mallery is a returning starter at defensive tackle and Aldrich should again be tough against the run at nose guard.

LINEBACKERS
There is only a little experience with White returning at outside linebacker. Wes Richardson, Dalton Hogle, Logan Conrad and Jarred Mills are listed as contenders to play for the unit.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
There are two returning starters for the Sabers, who yielded an average of 81.6 yards passing per game last season. Stanley is a good cover corner who will also play the run and Hepler is a strong, physical player.

KICKING
Steve Jess is a solid kicker and punter. He hit 14 extra points and added a field goal last season.
