An upstate New York man faces charges for the robbery of the NBT Bank branch in Great Bend Twp. last year where over $14,000 was taken in the heist.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the federal grand jury indictment of Robert Meader, 31, of Liverpool, N.Y., following his arrest.

According to police reports, Meader allegedly walked into the bank branch located on SR 11, wrote out a note demanding money and handed it to one of the tellers.

In the robbery, the suspect indicated he had a bomb and produced a soft-sided cooler that he threatened was a bomb. The bomb turned out to be a fake, according to police.

He then fled the scene white, four-door sedan with New York plates and black rims, according to initial reports.

Meader was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Karoline Mehalchick and was detained in the Lackawanna County Jail in Scranton pending trial.

The case was jointly investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Onondaga Sheriff’s Office in New York.

If convicted, Meader could face up to 20 years in prison.
