Man charged in baby’s death

BY STACI WILSON

Nearly three years after an infant died in Harmony Township, a man facing criminal homicide charges in the case.

Andrew Lesser, 32, was arraigned Tuesday (June 7) in New Milford District Court on a homicide charge in connection with the May 2013 death of seven-month-old Mavrick Starke. He is now being held without bail at the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility where he is currently serving a sentence on a theft charge.

According to court documents, Lesser is the former boyfriend of the baby’s mother, Amber Hack.

In 2013, investigators were not able to determine the cause of the infant’s death. But last year, Hack came forward to police and said Lesser had covered the child’s mouth until he stopped crying. They later realized Mavrick was not breathing.

That information was used by police and conversations between Lesser and Hack were recorded.

Police interviewed Lesser at the jail earlier this year, where according to court documents indicate he admitted his actions.

A preliminary hearing in New Milford District Court has been scheduled for July 25.
