Public fired up about possible incinerator

BY STACI WILSON

The county commissioners had few business items to handle at the June 8 meeting, but members of the public probed for answers about the possibility of an industrial incinerator locating in New Milford Twp.

Audience member Edna Paskoff asked for an update from the county officials, citing inconsistent stories she had heard.

Commissioner Alan Hall repeated what he has told the public in the past few meetings. “The planning commission has no plans,” he said. He also said that, following an initial inquiry several months ago, the county has not heard any additional information from the developers who presented the idea.
Audience member Vera Scroggins said an attorney would be attending a June 14 meeting in New Milford to discuss possible ordinances, etc.

Scroggins also asked Commissioner MaryAnn Warren for her thoughts about an incinerator.

“I need much more information,” Warren said. “There’s nothing on record that is going to happen at this time.”

Hall said he had no idea what the incinerator would do; how it would function; or be designed.

In business matters, the commissioners accepted several resignations:

*Arleta Smith, from the probation department, effective Aug. 26;
*Damon Sandle, from the jail, effective June 12;
*Briana Hollenbeck, from the sheriff’s department, effective June 17.

Steven Jansoki was hired as the Assistant Director of Information Technology, effective June 22. Starting salary for the position is $37,500, with an increase to $40,000 following a six month probationary period.

The transfer of Charles Bennett from part-time to full-time corrections officer was also approved.

Sandra Conklin and Connie Reinhart were appointed to serve on the county Tourism Committee, through May 7, 2017.

The County Commissioners meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, 9 a.m., in the commissioners’ meeting room located in the County Courthouse in Montrose.
