Montrose scores win over Warriors

Relief from the winter-like weather allowed local baseball and softball teams to get a few games at the end of the week.

Baseball

Montrose jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in their 13-6 victory over Elk Lake on Friday. Nick Warriner led the way for the Meteors, the sophomore shortstop scored 3 times and drove in 3 runs with a double and a homerun. Andrew Rapisardi also drove in 3 runs with 3 hits and Zach Dieck had two hits and scored twice for Montrose.  Elk Lake was led by Trenton Finch with two hits, including a double.

Romey Washo struck out 10 Elk Lake hitters while scattering 4 hits and walking only one over 6 innings. Rapisardi struck out two in one inning of relief. Joe McAleer took the loss for the Warriors surrendering 7 runs and 4 hits over 3 innings, and Kevin Valvano pitched 4 innings of relief surrendering 6 runs on 7 hits.

Rapisardi and Warriner remained hot the next day each collecting two hits, but it wasn’t enough as Forest City scored one run in the top of the seventh to prevail 4-3 over Montrose.

Rapisardi scattered 6 hits and struck out 4 over 6 innings on the hill for Montrose, and Cole Aukema took the loss after surrendering two hits and a walk in the final inning.

Blue Ridge lost to Dunmore 14-5 while competing in the Bill Howerton Strike Out Cancer Weekend held in Scranton. Kaleb Folk and Adam Roe each had two hits for the Raiders.

  Softball

Montrose broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the bottom of the third as it rolled to a 7-0 victory over Forest City. Madelyn Guinane struck out 12 while scattering 4 hits over 7 innings pick up the win on the mound for the Lady Meteors. She was also one of three Montrose hitters with two hits. Betsy Warner had two hits and scored twice, and Riley Short added two hits. Jolee Smith drove in three runs for Montrose.

Susquehanna fell to Lakeland 9-0. Bridget Iveson suffered the loss for Susquehanna and had the Lady Sabers’ lone two hits, with two doubles in defeat.
