Blue Ridge sweeps Sabers double header

Monday night Blue Ridge swept a double header from Susquehanna, beating the Sabers 10-5 in the first and 7-4 in the nightcap.

Down 4-2 Blue Ridge scored eight runs in their final two at bats. Winning Pitcher Josh Goff had three hits including a triple to pace the Raiders. Tyler Hilliard doubled and Kaleb Folk, Adam Roe, Jeff Zawiski, and Ben Gudykunst were two time hitters for Blue Ridge.

 Goff didn’t allow a run or hit in the final two innings to gain the victory in relief of Zawiski and Hillard. Zawiski surrendered three runs and three hits over two innings while striking out two. Hilliard surrendered two runs and two hits over three innings.

Garrett Decker took the loss for the Sabers giving up six runs on three hits in an inning and a third. Starter Anthony Dolfini scattered six hits and two runs the first two innings, and Garrison Kiernan gave up two runs on four hits just short of the final two innings. John Hallisey had two hits including a double for Susquehanna.

In the nightcap, Gudykunst drove in two runs on homerun and double and had three hits to lead Blue Ridge to the sweep. Zawiski scored three runs for the Raiders and Goff again picked up the win in relief, giving up one hit while striking out eight over five innings. Starter Ben Burchell gave up four runs on three hits.   Devon Dubonwitz took the loss for Susquehanna giving up four runs and six hits over six innings. Eric Lee surrendered three runs in relief.

Forest City jumped out early on Mountain View with four runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Foresters defeated the Eagles 7-3. Alex Showalter took the loss for the Eagles surrendering seven runs on 11 hits. Tyler Henke retired the only batter he faced in relief. Jay Rusek and Jay Craven each had a hit and an RBI for Mountain View.

Elk Lake defeated Forest City 9-2 behind the arm and bat of Caleb Ely as the senior pitcher went the distance for the Warriors scattering six hits and striking out five. Ely had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Zach Grovesnor added three hits for the Warriors and Hunter Bomboy had two. Kevin Valvano tripled and drove in two runs for Elk Lake.

Montrose only had two hits for winning pitcher Jerome Washo, but it was enough as the Meteors defeated Lackawanna Trail 7-3. Washo struck out nine Lions and gave up five runs over six innings. Andrew Rapisardi struck out the side in relief in the seventh inning to earn the save.  Bryden Jerauld and Makeela Fabrizio had the lone hits for Montrose.

Ben Gudykunst and Carson Koehler each had two hits as Blue Ridge beat host Mountain View 7-3. Gudykunst drove in two runs in support of winning pitcher Jeff Zawiski who gave up three runs on six hits over six innings. Ben Burchell surrendered one hit in one inning of relief.

Anthony Neri took the loss for Mountain View surrendering three runs and four hits over 4 1/3 innings and struck out four. Tyler Henke gave up four runs on two hits and struck out one in relief. Jay Craven had two hits for the Eagles.

Kevin Valvano doubled and drove in four runs as Elk Lake shut out Mountain View 12-0. Hunter Bonavita had two hits including a double for the Warriors. Joe McAleer gained the win for the Warriors scattering two hits and striking out four. Christian Salsman pitched two innings of relief.
