Montrose boys’ win 30th straight on track

Montrose won its 30th straight Lackawanna Division IV track meet and secured its sixth straight title with a 117-29 win over Blue Ridge behind the efforts of Brennan Gilhool and Evan Snyder. 

Gilhool won the 100 and 200-meters and teamed with John Herman, Tyler Dovin, and Henry Rogers to capture the 400 Relay. He also was part of the 1600 Relay with Rogers, Snyder, and Michael Henry. Meanwhile Snyder swept all three jump events – Long, Triple and High.

Brandon Curley posted victories in the 800 and 1600-meter, and George Thompson took first place in both the 110 and 300 Hurdles. Henry earned a win in the 400-meter and Colin Spellman took the 3200-meter race. Spellman teamed with Max Brewer, Damien Riley, and Nick Coy to win the 3200 Relay.

Maverick Tims secured two more wins in Field Events as he captured the Javelin with a throw of 127-7 and tied with teammate Tyler Dovin in the Pole Vault as they both cleared 9-6. 

 David Hill earned two victories for Blue Ridge as he won the Discus with a throw of 93-9 ½  and the Shot Put with a toss of 32-1¼.

Montrose set up its chance at the title when it took control of Lackawanna League Division IV with an 89-59 victory over Susquehanna last Tuesday.

Gilhool claimed victories in the 100 and 200-meter and combined with Snyder, Henry, and Rogers to win the 1600 Relay. Curley posted victories once again in the 800 and 1600-meter, and Thompson took first place in both the 110 and 300 Hurdles. Riley, Coy, Brewer, and Spellman won the 3200 relay and Montrose received other wins on the track as Henry took the 400-meter and Spellman won the 3200-meter. Susquehanna claimed the 400 Relay behind the efforts of Megivern, Dixon, Orner, and Deakin.

In field events, Susquehanna garnered most of their points as Deakin won both the Long and Triple Jumps and CJ Stone captured a win in Discus with a throw of 107-2. Armitage claimed the Shot Put at 37-11 ½ Maverick Tims won the javelin with a toss of 123-7 and cleared the Pole Vault at nine feet. Snyder got a win the long jump.

Mountain View got into the win column with an 83-43 victory over Blue Ridge. David Shea led the way for the Eagles soaring to wins in the 200 and 400-meter races and a victory in Pole Vault with a clearing of 8-6.  He also teamed with Matt Dougherty, Cody Durso, Joey Jackson to claim the 1600 Relay. In addition to the Relay Dougherty scored victories in the 110 and 300 Hurdles.

Also, on the track Durson won the 100-meter in 12.8 seconds, Nate Salansky won the 800-meter, and Chris Masters won the 3200-meter. For Blue Ridge Jack Condron won the 1600-meter and Ryan Mills, Brandon Gentile, Brandon Findley, and Bill McArthur took the 400 Relay.

The Eagles took the field events behind Robbie Wilcox who won the Shot Put with a throw of 34-3 and the Discus at 90-4, Shea’s Pole Vault victory. Mills picked up two wins for the Raiders claiming the Long and Triple Jumps.

Lackawanna Trail evened their record at 2-2 with a 76-64 victory over Elk Lake. Leading the way for the Warriors in defeat was Cody Oswald who claimed victories in the 100, 200, and 400-meter races. Noah Johnson (1600 and 3200-meter), Brett Carney (800-meter), and Jason Boyer (High Jump) were also victorious for Elk Lake.
