Wooden announces retirement

Vicki Wooden, Marketing Consultant for the Susquehanna County Independent & Weekender and LIVING Susquehanna-Wyoming Counties announces her retirement on June 29, after nearly 20 years with the newspapers.

“I don’t know where the time has gone, but it’s gone quickly. It has truly been a pleasure representing the Susquehanna County Independent and Weekender for almost 20 years,” said Wooden.

“I would like to thank all of my Susquehanna County advertisers over these many years for their support and friendship and many kindnesses,” she said. “It has been nice getting to know so many of you on a personal level. I will miss you all!”

During her career, she received the prestigious Times-Shamrock “Billie Award,” an overall achievement award for sales, marketing and customer service in 2001. This award is presented to only one individual in the entire Times-Shamrock print division. Wooden also was awarded the “Golden Shamrock” achievement award from Times-Shamrock in 2007 and 2009; and was a member of the “Top Ten Club” throughout her employment under the Times-Shamrock ownership.

Before joining the Independent staff, Wooden was the Special Education Coordinator at the Elk Lake School District. She also worked for 20 years with BWIA International Airline as Regional Manager, Mid-Atlantic, U.S., based in Washington, D.C.

Wooden’s retirement plans include traveling and spending time with her family.

Local media and sales veteran Dan Tompkins joins the Susquehanna County Independent and Weekender staff in advertising sales. For the past two years, Tompkins has been working as an account representative for LIVING: Susquehanna-Wyoming Counties.

Tompkins said, “I’m delighted to be joining the Susquehanna County team and look forward to getting acquainted with new folks throughout the county while re-establishing relationships with long-time clients and friends.”

Tompkins is an award-winning marketing and public relations practitioner, writer, and event specialist, and has enjoyed a long and colorful career developing, coordinating, and implementing successful promotional campaigns for a wide variety of products, services, and organizations.
