BR, MA wrestling picks up 2 wins

Montrose and Blue Ridge started the new year off with two impressive wins as Lackawanna League wrestling action resumed.

Blue Ridge picked up a 44-35 win over Scranton Prep as the Raiders collected four pins and a technical fall.

Nathan McArthur got the first fall when he pinned Scranton Prep’s Jacob Dennis in 1:54 of his 126-pound match. Adam Roe garnered the next pin at 152 when he decked Bryce Genello in 2:30.

Tom and Ben Gudykunst earned pins for Blue Ridge at 182 and 195 pounds. Tom Gudykunst pinned Prep’s Andrew Durkin in 5:25 and Ben followed his brother with a pin of Lucca Dennis in 1:57.

At 113 pounds Gavin Crawford earned 16-0 technical fall over Jack Lynett. The Raiders got their final points when Cole Soden earned a 10-6 decision at 132 pounds.

Other Raiders wrestling were Isaiah Valentine who was pinned at 120 pounds; Alec Martin who fell at 138; and Zach Consla who was pinned at 160. Jordan Williams suffered a tech fall at 145.

Blue Ridge followed that up win up with 69-0 shut out of Elk Lake.

Alec Martin pinned Terrence Brozonis at 138 pounds in 1:22; and Jordan Williams followed with a pin of Thaddeus Woodhead in 2:30 at 145 pounds.

Roe pinned Elk Lake’s Noah Atkins at 152 pounds in 3:19. Tommy Gudykunst earned the next Raiders pin when he fell Kellen Wescott in 2:28 at 170 pounds. Aaron Babcock pinned Jacob Yetter in 1:13 at 182 pounds and Eli Aldrich pinned Nik Canfield at 285 pounds in 56 seconds. McArthur earned the final points and pin for Blue Ridge when he decked Cody Bomboy in 2:30 at 126 pounds.

Blue Ridge’s Soden earned a 5-4 decision over Todd Snyder at 132 pounds.

Consla, Benny Gudykunst, and Crawford collected forfeit wins at 160, 195, and 113 respectively.

Montrose took a 48-6 win from Elk Lake collecting six pins enroute to the win.

Andrew Rosevear collected the first pin when he pinned Bomboy in 3:59 at 132 pounds. Brendan Kanna followed that with a pin of Elk Lake’s Snyder at 138 pounds, in 3:31.

The next four pins were quick matches for the Meteors. Joe Hester made quick work of Brozonis at 145 pounds garnering the pin in 36 seconds and Marc Avila decked Wescott in 43 seconds at 170 pounds. Bryan Ryan barely broke a sweat at 182 taking care of Yetter in 23 seconds and Justin Kelley completed the short sweeps for Montrose when fell Erick Skinner in 57 seconds.

Noah Atkins earned Elk Lake’s lone points with a pin at 152 pounds over Ramon Carrero in 3:54.

Nich Harder (106) and Cameron Harder (160) received forfeit wins for the Meteors.

Montrose took a 60-6 win over Mountain View with five pins on the evening.

Hester opened up the pinning when he took Mountain View’s Nathan Ofalt at 138 pounds in 2:48. Kanna pinned Logan Spargue at 152 pounds in 1:53 and Jacob Craige registered a pin of Alex Carpenetti at 170.

Avila pinned Zeb Gregory in 42 seconds at 182 pounds and Kelley registered a quick deck of Josh MacDonald at 220 in 46 seconds.

Montrose picked up forfeit wins wit Dailynn Eisenbarth (126), Rosevear (132), Cameron Harder (160), Bryan Ryan (195) and Nick Harder (106).

Mountain View’s Caylee Gregory registered a forfeit win at 113 to put points on the board for the Eagles.
