BR wins set up showdown of unbeatens

Blue Ridge set up a showdown with Western Wayne on Monday for the lead of the Lackawanna League with a pair of wins over the week.

The Lady Raiders defeated Mountain View 3-1 behind the play of Makenzie Cook and Hunter Heeman.

Cook had 15 points including six aces and six digs while Heeman complemented her 17 points with six kills for the Lady Raiders.

Alison Marshman added 13 assists and five digs while Lydia Andusko added 13 digs.

Rachel Gerfin and Camdyn Rusek led Mountain View with five and three kills respectively.

Blue Ridge ensured Monday’s battle of the unbeatens with Western Wayne by defeating Susquehanna 3-0.

Heeman led the way with seven points including six aces and added five kills. Cook registered 16 points with seven aces.

Marshman fed the front with 18 assists and Ashley Torres contributed eight points and Ally Sherwood added six kills.

Paeton Benson had five points and five digs and Kelcey Treible contributed five aces to lead the Lady Sabers.

Susquehanna won its first league match with a sweep of Lackawanna Trail.

Sam Voege had 27 points including 12 aces to lead the Lady Sabers while Bethany Burns added 10 points, five kills, and five blocks.

Mountain View bounced back from the loss to Blue Ridge with a shutout of Montrose.

Kelsey Rumola had eight kills and five aces while Delaney Hollenbeck added 15 assists to go along with six aces to pace Mountain View.

Gerfin contributed six kills and five aces in the winning effort while Montrose was led by Taylor Diaz who had three kills and blocks and Jessie Fassler chipped in with 11 assists.

Earlier Montrose got off to a slow start against Dunmore in their 3-0 loss to the Lady Bucks.

Fassler led the Lady Meteors with nine assists while Jaelyn Smith had six digs and Maisie Porter had five kills.

Western Wayne remained undefeated with 3-0 sweep of Forest City.

Kara Kelley had three kills and Grace Urisch had three assists to lead the Lady Foresters.

Elk Lake remained searching for their first win after falling to Abington Heights 3-0.
