The Kiwanis and Lions Community Service Clubs of Montrose extend an invitation to all residents of the communities of Susquehanna County to join with us in celebrating America’s Independence Day.  We ask that you display items such as the American Flag, colorful bunting, flowery displays or any other idea you desire to show your Patriotism, Love, Respect and Honor to this great country in which we live.

Also, let’s give a big ‘Shout Out’ to all those special ‘HEROES’ who have given of themselves during the trying times of this pandemic to provide the health and safety needs to all of us.  They are true Patriots in the finest tradition of our ancestors who fought for the Independence we all enjoy today throughout America.

Although we will not be able to present the annual July 4th Celebration in Montrose because of  the COVID 19 pandemic, which we have done for the past 43 years, we want to encourage all our citizens to remember the day in a special way of their choosing.

The July 4th race committee is sponsoring the “4th of July Montrose QUARANTINED! 5K and 10K 2020” virtual races.  This race will keep the memory of July 4th alive as well as provide a resource of funds for the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs to carry out the many programs and projects they both provide for the communities that they serve.  To learn more about the virtual races and sign up to participate, find “4th of July Montrose QUARANTINED! 5K and 10K” on the web.

As mentioned above, the July 4th Celebration is a major fundraiser for both clubs.  It helps provide monies for such services as funding the United Fire Company and Susquehanna County Library new building programs.  Providing financial support for Montrose Minutemen Ambulance, Red Cross, Mobile Food Pantry, Susquehanna County Interfaith and Montrose Memorial Park restoration and upkeep.

Also, monies are used to support Back to School haircuts and backpacks for needy children, purchasing turkeys for Trehab’s Thanksgiving food program and purchasing toys and food for Interfaith’s Christmas program.

Many of our major sponsors who have provided support in years past are stepping up to the plate this year and contributing their sponsor fee to the clubs so they can carry out their mission of serving those in need.

Because of the cancelation of the 2020 July 4th Celebration, the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs are also asking the public who have been a part of and supported the many July 4th events over the years to help us in this effort.  If you would like to help, please send a donation of any amount to:  Montrose July 4th Committee, P.O. Box 345, Montrose, PA  18801.

Thanks for all your help! See you in 2021!
