Assault, coverup charged in Montrose bar brawl

A fight in a Susquehanna County bar parking lot on Sept 11 ended with two men in the hospital.

State police lodged charges last week against four people in connection with the assault at Emberz Bar and Restaurant in Bridgewater Township just outside of Montrose.

Daniel Snee, brother of N.Y. Giants’ guard Chris Snee and assistant coach of the Montrose High School football team, faces the most serious charges, including two felony counts of aggravated assault.

Snee, 25, Montrose, was charged by State Trooper John Oliver with two felony counts of aggravated assault. He is also charged with two counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

In a Sept. 22 interview, Snee told police that the men were making comments to his girlfriend and then attempted to tackle him.

Snee said he then pushed the man to the ground and punched him a couple of times.

Police reported one of the men beaten sustained multiple head injuries, including a laceration on the back of his head that required to be stapled back together.

The other man had facial bones surrounding his left eye which were fractured and he also sustained multiple head injuries. The second man denies arguing with anyone prior to the beating and said he never saw who hit him.

According to the police affidavit, Snee’s girlfriend Sarah Conaty told police that she had left the bar with Snee and Dana Thomas Marsh, 23, Montrose, when the fight between the four men broke out in the parking lot.

She told police that Snee had a beer bottle in his hand and struck one of the men with it.

Conaty also said she attempted to break up the fight.

As Conaty left the parking lot with Snee and Marsh, Conaty said the two told her the other men had been yelling, “Hey, baby” and “You’re looking good” at her, prompting the fight.

According to police, Snee, Marsh and Conaty all returned to Snee’s residence to continue drinking. The three were later joined by Jacob Henry and Marie Parkinson, who had called 911 when they discovered the two victims in the parking lot.

Henry and Parkinson were then told it was Snee and Marsh who had beaten the men, according to Conaty’s statement to police.

Conaty told police the five of them agreed to lie if asked about the incident.

She later decided to come forward to the police with a statement of what actually happened.

When interviewed by police, Henry and Parkinson each stated they had no idea who was responsible for the assault.

Marsh has been charged with two counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Henry, 28, South Montrose, has been charged with providing a false written statement and filing a false report incriminating another, both misdemeanors.

Parkinson, 21, Jackson, also faces a misdemeanor charge for providing a false written statement.

Preliminary hearings for Snee, Marsh, Henry and Parkinson are scheduled to be held Nov. 15 before Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Hollister.
