Bail set in child assault case

Bail was set at $100,000 for an Oklahoma man who faces charges for sexually assaulting am 11-year-old girl in several incidents that occurred over the period of several months in 2010 in Auburn Twp.

Gary Lee Watts, 54, Prague, Okla., appeared in Montrose District Court Monday, Jan. 31.

His preliminary hearing, originally scheduled for Monday, was continued to Feb. 7.

District Judge Jeffrey Hollister set bail for the man. He was unable to post bail and remanded to the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility.

Watts was charged in December by Pennsylvania State Trooper John Oliver with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 13.

He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and corruption of minors.

According to the police affidavit filed in Montrose District Court, the alleged incidents took place in the past year from March to August.

Police said the child had reported to an adult that Watts had been touching her in “bad spots.”

Watts also faces assault charges for allegedly grabbing an adult female by the hair, throwing her down and striking her in the abdominal region on Aug. 28, 2010.

According to the police affidavit, Watts left the area sometime after the August assault.
