Ely surpasses 1,000 points

At Montrose, the Lady Meteors stayed undefeated and Dallas Ely reached a scoring milestone against rival Elk Lake on Friday night.

With 1:27 remaining in the first half, Ely scored her 1,000^th point and finished with 22 points in the game as the Meteors took a 58-11 win.

“This means a lot,” Ely said. “And it means a lot for us as a team. I just come out and play every night. Our main goal is to just win. We come out and play to win and whatever happens, happens.

“We can out and played our best and were able to win big.”

Montrose built a 20-2 lead after the first quarter and that advantage grew to 38-8 by the half. Ely can now focus on her team’s pursuit of the Lackawanna Division III title.

“It was starting to weigh on me, because people were making a big deal about it,” Ely said of the milestone.

“I just tried to forget about it. I just went out and played

my game and it came to me. It was a lot of fun tonight.”

Katie Stranburg and Katelyn Spellman each added seven points for Montrose.

Elk Lake was led by Katie Mitchell and Mazie Tyler who each scored four.

Also last week, Montrose picked up a 53-13 victory over Lackawanna Trail’s girls at home on Wednesday night.

Montrose got ahead 19-7 after the first quarter and increased their lead over the Lions to 30-9 after a 11-2 second quarter.

In the second half, the Meteors paced Trail 15-4 in the third quarter and finished them off 8-0 in the fourth.

Ely scored a game-high 20 points and Sara Krupinski added 13 while Amelia DiPhillips chipped in with six.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s Lady Eagles grabbed a 37-22 victory over Lackawanna Trail’s girls at Tunnel Hill on Friday night.

The first quarter saw the Eagles get ahead 8-4 and then increase their lead to 22-6 by halftime.

After the half, the Eagles paced the Lady Lions 8-3 in the third and despite a late-game 13-7 rally from Trail in the fourth, Mountain View took the win.

The Eagles were led by Alex Lynn with 10 points while Kayla Kazmierski added nine and Megan Kress had six.

Elk Lake

The Elk Lake girls’ basketball team took home a 35-30 victory over Blue Ridge’s Raiders on the road on Wednesday night.

The Raiders got ahead of Elk Lake in the first quarter, going 6-3, but the Warriors struck back in the second with a 10-2 run to lead 13-8 at halftime.

After the break, Elk Lake paced Blue Ridge 12-9 in the third and despite a 9-6 run from the Raiders in the fourth, the Warriors took home the win.

Meghan Bush scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Warriors while Mazie Tyler chipped in nine and Taylor Watkins had five.

Blue Ridge was paced by Jenna Rupakus with nine and Kristen Brown with six.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s girls’ basketball team took a 50-42 loss from Lakeland at home on Wednesday night.

The Eagles paced Lakeland 12-8 in the first quarter, before the Lady Chiefs would lead the Eagles 12-3 in the second to give Lakeland a 20-15 lead at the half.

In the second half, Lakeland outscored Mountain View 14-13 in the third and paced the Eagles 16-14 in the fourth to take the win.

Mountain View was paced by Kayla Kazmierski who scored a game-high 19 points while Megan Kress had 15 points.

Forest City

The Forest City girls’ basketball team grabbed a 53-37 win over Lakeland at home on Friday and took a 58-23 victory over Susquehanna on the road on Wednesday evening.

Against Lakeland, Forest City and the Chiefs each scored 12 points in the first before the Foresters would pull ahead going 12-9 in the second quarter to lead 24-21 at halftime.

In the third, the Foresters pulled away with a 16-7 rally before sealing the win with a 13-9 run in the fourth.

The Foresters were led by Cassie Erdmann with 18 points and Katie Yale with 17. Carly Erdmann chipped in six.

On Wednesday in the first quarter the Foresters outscored the Sabers 17-2 and then dominated them 12-6 in the second to give Forest City a 29-8 lead at halftime.

After the break, the Foresters outscored Susquehanna 13-0, and then finished off the win with a 16-15 run in the fourth.

The Foresters were paced by Katie Yale with eight points while Cassie Erdmann, Tania Pollard, Morgan Saul and Cassie Bendyk all scored seven for the Foresters.

Susquehanna was paced by Mashawna Hargett with nine points.

Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge girls’ basketball team picked up a 49-36 victory over Susquehanna on the road on Friday evening.

Each team scored 13 in the first quarter and then each had seven in the second to keep the game deadlocked at 20 at the half.

After halftime, the Raiders paced Susquehanna 14-7 in the third and capped off the win with a 15-9 run in the fourth.

Blue Ridge was led by Kristen Born and Ashley Warren who each scored 14 points for the Raiders.

Emily Carmody led Susquehanna with 11 while Mashawna Hargett had 10.
