From Biker Babes to Pink Ladies to Sisters on Strike – bowlers showed their rebel flare at Saturday’s Bowl for Kids Sake – the largest, annual fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs in the county.

The theme of this year’s Bowl for Kids Sake was “Rebel with a Cause.”

The event raised about $8,000 for the program, down slightly from the 2010 totals.

But BB/BS program director Cynthia Beeman said, “From our large sponsors to individual donors who gave just one dollar, partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters through Bowl for Kids’ Sake makes a positive, long-lasting impact on children in our community.”

Large event sponsors included Peoples Neighborhood Bank, Scott Lonzinski, Gertrude Hawk and Diaz Companies.

In Susquehanna County, BB/BS operates three school-based programs in Mountain View, Blue Ridge and Montrose school districts.

Beeman said, “The money raised goes to help us continues these programs and begin new ones.”

“Our mentoring works. It works to help broaden children’s perspectives and help them learn how to make good choices,” Beeman said. “It starts a child on the path to fulfilling their potential – and succeeding in school and life.”
