Lady Meteors capture county crown

Montrose Area’s girls’ basketball team took home the championship from the Denise Reddon Christmas Tournament at Susquehanna on Thursday night with a 78-36 win over Susquehanna. The Montrose Area girls’ basketball team took home first place from the Denise Reddon Christmas Basketball Tournament at Susquehanna with a 78-36 victory over Susquehanna on Thursday night.

Sara Krupinski scored a game-high 15 points as Montrose took the victory while Dallas Ely chipped in 13 points and Brooke Malloy had 11.

Montrose took a 28-6 lead over the Sabers after the first quarter and never looked back as they paced the Sabers 15-4 in the second, 16-11 in the third and 19-15 in the fourth to secure the crown.

Amber Dubanowitz led Susquehanna with 11 points while Emily Carmody had eight and Mikayla and Mashawna Hargett each chipped in four points.

Elk Lake’s Tyler, Blue Ridge’s Furch and Susquehanna’s Mashawna Hargett joined her on the all-tournament team.

ElkLake’s Lady Warriors girls’ basketball team secured third place with a 40-24 victory overBlue Ridgeon Thursday.

Meghan Bush scored 13 points to lead the Warriors in the consolation game, while Casey Tyler added point points.

The Warriors pacedBlue Ridge8-2 in the first and 12-6 in the second to hold a 20-8 lead by halftime.

In the second half,ElkLakewidened the gap with a 12-7 run in the third, and despite a 9-7 quarter fromBlue Ridge, the Warriors took the win.

Taylor Watkins added six points while Katie Mitchell had five and Sara Kwiatkowski dropped in four points.

Jacquelyn Furch ledBlue Ridgewith nine points, while Ashley Warren had five points and Kristen Brown and Katherine Kempa each had four.

On opening night, Susquehanna’s girls took home a 52-49 victory overElkLake, snapping a 49-game losing street that dated back to Feb. 9, 2009.

17 points while Brianna Bianco had 11.

The Lady Sabers fell behind early asElkLaketook a 12-6 lead in the first, but a big 19-8 second quarter for Susquehanna put them up 25-20 by halftime.

ElkLakeedged out the Sabers 14-13 in the third and 15-14 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Susquehanna lead.

PacingElkLakewas Kwiatkowski with 12 points while Taylor Watkins had 11.

Also on Tuesday, Montrose’s girls took a 61-21 victory over Blue Ridge to enter the finals as Ely scored 27 points for Montrose and Krupinski added 13.

Montrose took a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, outscoringBlue Ridge16-9 in the second, 10-4 in the third and 14-8 in the fourth.
