Trial continued for former Montrose teacher

BY STACI WILSON

The trial of a former Montrose area teacher on wiretapping and sex charges has been continued.

Jeffrey David Norris, 31, Montrose, was scheduled to head to trial this month in Susquehanna County Court at the request of the Attorney General’s Office.

Wayne County Judge Raymond Hamill is presiding over the case.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a trial date has not yet been set.

The case against Norris was filed in June 2009 in connection with incidents that allegedly happened in 2004.

Norris stands accused of having a sexual affair with a female student who was 14 years of age at the time.

He also is accused of recording conversations with Montrose school administrators without their consent on three different occasions.

Last year, the Pennsylvania Superior Court reversed, on appeal from prosecutors, a February 17, 2010 Court of Common Pleas decision that threw out the three wiretapping counts lodged against Norris, clearing the way for the case to move to trial.

Norris remains free on $50,000 bail.
