Raiders sweep Christmas tourney

Raiders’ Jeff Morris and Isabella Cosmello earned the tournament MVP awards.

The Blue Ridge boys’ captured the 2016 Susquehanna County Christmas Tournament crown with wins over Elk Lake and Montrose.

The Blue Ridge boys and girls basketball teams came away from the annual Susquehanna County Christmas tournament as champions last week and players from those teams garnered MVP awards along with the team trophy.
Jeff Morris and Isabella Cosmello earned most valuable player honors in the tournament, which saw two rounds of competition between four county schools: Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Montrose and Susquehanna

Named to the all-tournament team were: Garret Grausgruber (SUS), Brennan Gilhool (MON), Ben Woolcock (EL), Reirdan Reyan (EL), Jarred Mills (BR). MVP: Jeff Morris (BR).
The boys’ championship game was tight, with Blue Ridge edging the Warriors by two points, 67-65.
Tournament MVP Jeff Morris scored 28 points to lead the Raiders,
Jarred Mills added 11 points and Ian Townend contributed nine to the final total.
Ben Woolcock had 22 points for Elk Lake and Reirdan Reyan had 21.
Harley Mullins scored 17 points to lead Montrose in the consolation game as the Meteors scored a 52-37 win over the Sabers.
Jacob Peck added 13 for the winners.
Tyler Williams led Susquehanna with 15 points and Mason Deakin added eight.
In the opening round of play, Morris scored 22 points for the Raiders to lead the team to a 62-48 win over Montrose.
Michael Allen added nine points for the winners, and Kyle Donovan and Tyrell Cheeseboro both scored eight points.
Brennan Gilhool had 15 points for Montrose and Devin Nash added 11.
Ben Woolcock hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds left to give Elk Lake a 50-48 win over Susquehanna in the opening round of the tournament.
Woolcock finished with 18 points and Reirdan Reyan added 11.
Mason Deakin scored 15 points for Susquehanna.

Kalynne Myers added nine to the Blue Ridge total.
Rose Warner scored 10 points for Elk Lake and Justine Johns had eight.
Harper Andre scored 13 points to lead Montrose 30-27 over the Lady Sabers in the consolation game of the Denise Reddon Memorial Tournament.
Taylor Huyck had 11 points for Susquehanna.
In the opening round of the tournament, Kalynne Myers scored 13 points to lead Blue Ridge over Montrose, 40-37.
Isabella Cosmello scored nine for the Lady Raiders win.
Georgia Smith led Montrose with 13 points, and Analise Ely scored 10.
Justine Johns scored 16 points to lead the Lady Warriors in opening round over Susquehanna, 55-38.
