Susquehanna sets 2017-18 calendar

Students in the Susquehanna Community School District return to the classrooms on Aug. 28 for the 2017-18 school year.
The school board approved the proposed calendar at the March 21 meeting. The meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, was postponed because of the snow storm that canceled school most of that week.
The district also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Susquehanna County that provides for the cost sharing of tax collector software. Two-thirds of the cost will be covered by the county, with the school district paying one-third.
The board accepted notices of intent to retire from kindergarten teacher Jeanne Gordon, and food service manager Debra Benson.
The board also approved the following:
*dual enrollment agreement for the upcoming school year with Lackawanna College;
*modified work schedule for 235-260 day employees;
*a revision to the school day policy;
*hired for the 2017 season, pending all appropriate clearances, Matthew Orner as Head Junior High Baseball Coach; David Cottrell as Assistant Junior High Baseball Coach; and Robert Goodrich as a Track Helper; and approved Brian Bullick as a Junior High Baseball Volunteer;
*approved the use of the elementary grounds and gymnasium by the Susquehanna Community Development Association for an Easter egg hunt on April 8.
The next board meeting will be held Wednesday, April 19, 7 p.m., in the administration office located in the elementary school; a work session will be held Tuesday, April 18, 7 p.m., also in the administration office.
