Town of Binghamton firefighters tackle flames coming through the roof of the Brackney Inn on Friday, Oct. 20. PHOTO COURTESY DONZILLA

Flames tore through the Brackney Inn on Friday, Oct. 20, in Silver Lake Twp., destroying the upper level of the 1800s building, with damage to the tavern level unknown as of press time.
According to reports, fire broke out at about 4:30 p.m. in the upper floor of the building which has apartment units.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
Everyone in the building evacuated safely as Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Co. reported to the scene. Mutual aid from neighboring fire companies was immediately called in.
Fire companies from Town of Binghamton, Forest Lake, Snake Creek, United Fire in Montrose sent both manpower and trucks to help fight the blaze. Conklin, Kirkwood and Vestal Fire were also on hand at the scene, as was Union EMS.
