The Mountain View School Board recognized a group of employees who have completed five through 30 years of service (in increments of five) with the school district at Monday’s board meeting.
Peter Regeski and Darlene Sweeney were recognized for 30 years of service. Patricia Dietrich, Melody Haley, Roberta Harvey, and Judy Bell were recognized for 25 years. Pamela Ealo, Amy Getz, Mona Hoadley, Kelly Richmond, and Amy Seamans were honored for 20 years of service.
Susan Gesford and Diana Lombardi were recognized for 15 years. Sharon Kress, Matthey Donnelly, Jamie White, Matthew Georgetti, Robert Taylor, Anthony Borgia, Catherine Sekely, and Penny Bills were given a 10-year recognition gift. Annettia Carpenetti, Sandra Davis, Timothy Phillips, Jamie Bottger, Barbara Maxon, Deborah Pompey, Dawn
Neri, Lori Cobb, Mary Lynne Twining, Bambi Schrack, and Matthew Voda had five years of service noted.
“Just the four of you in the front row add up to 65 years,” Superintendent Karen Voigt said. “Every person has a story, and you have all made your contribution to our schools.”
Director of Curriculum and Instruction Chris Lake, also the acting principal of the elementary school, noted some exciting upcoming events for the elementary. He said that the Tri-City Opera will be performing “Jack and the Beanstalk” thanks to the Colwell Grant from the Endless Mountains Community Foundation. This grant will also fund
“Opera 101” for the junior/senior high school students.
Voigt said that the high school students are very enthusiastic about the arts and that the opera’s programs in previous years have been greatly enjoyed.
Lake said that a reading contest is being conducted in the elementary grades and that the winning class will go to the Robison Museum.
Read Across America Day, a celebration of Dr. Seuss and reading in general, will be held on Mar. 2, and volunteers are being sought to read in the classrooms.
A STEM celebration and science fair will be held on March 15.
A strategy meeting for the Wellness Policy will be held on Jan. 17.
School nurse Melody Haley answered questions about the status of the Wellness Policy and discussed a new Stop the Bleed training to prepare school employees to deal with injuries after tragedies.
Advertising was approved for a secondary science/physics teacher for the spring of the 2017-18 school year.
The board approved the Second Line Administrator Act 93 Transition Agreement for Sheri Ransom for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year, as presented, retroactive to Nov. 1, 2017.
School Board President Michael Barhite said that he attended a recent Clifford Township meeting and that the supervisors asked if a link could be included in their website so that residents could be directed to the school district’s information.
Cards and posters for School Board Directors Month were distributed to the board members from the sixth-grade students.
