Decker crowned Harford Fair Queen

The 161st Harford Fair opened Monday, Aug. 20, with the annual Queen Contest moving back to the first full day of the fair again this year. In 2017, the fair queen was crowned during the opening services on Sunday.

Hannah Decker, 17, of Springville, was crowned as the 2018 Harford Fair Queen following two rounds of judging which included speeches from contestants on the topic, “Why you should come to my fair,” as well as individual random questions.

Decker is the 27th annual Harford Fair Queen.

“There’s a lot going through my head,” Decker said when asked to make a few impromptu remarks following the announcement. “I’m very honored, very excited to be your Fair Queen,” she said.

Decker is a senior in the Elk Lake School District and will be celebrating her 18th birthday on Friday. She is the daughter of Randy and Tina Decker.

Kaylie Grosvenor, 20, Brooklyn Twp., was selected as the First Runner Up and will serve alongside Decker as the Queen Alternate. Grosvenor is the daughter of Paul and Susan Grosvenor and attends Misericordia University.

Other queen contestants included Scarlett Catalfamo, 17, of Brooklyn Twp.; Jacqueline Decker, 17, of Springville Twp.; Laura Graytock, 17, of Simpson; McKenzie Reeves, 17, of Montrose; and Emily Supancik, 20, of New Milford.

Ed Price of the PA Trappers Association presented Decker with a $300 prize during the ceremony.

Queen Coordinators are Ginny Beeman and Deb Chidester. Ellen Fuhrey. Austin Zaleski served as the contestants’ escort; and Ellen Metwalli and Laney Dickerson were crown bearers.
