Motorcyclist killed in Liberty Twp. crash

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday, June 4, on Route 29, in Liberty Twp. just south of the New York state line.

Qunicey Root, 43, of Sayre, succumbed to his injuries on the scene, according to police.

Root was riding a 2016b Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the roadway when he encountered an opossum in the southbound lane. He attempted to brake, but hit the animal causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.

The bike crossed over the lanes and exited the roadway. Root and the motorcycle struck a log and then a large boulder.

Snake Creek Volunteer Fire Co., Montrose Minute Men and the Susquehanna County Coroner assisted on the scene.
