Scranton man killed in I-81 crash

A 76-year-old Scranton man was killed last week in a one vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Lenox Twp.

Ronald Clark was traveling south when his vehicle entered the west shoulder of the highway and hit a guide rail. The vehicle continued moving southward with its passenger side against the rail.

Clark overcorrected and entered the driving lanes at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed into the median where it became airborne until its front end struck an embankment and overturned before rolling backwards to the center of the median and coming to rest upright.

Police said Clark was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not licensed to operate the vehicle.

He was transported to Geisinger CMC for treatment of serious injuries but later succumbed to those at the hospital.

The Pennsylvania State Police Crash Analyst and Reconstruction Services Unit and Clifford EMS assisted at the scene. Tpr. Keith Herbert investigated the fatal crash.
