Jones takes win in girls’ race

MA, EL boys’ teams collect wins

Montrose and Mountain View played hosts during the second week of Lackawanna League Cross Country action.

At Montrose, Elk Lake’s Krista Jones captured the girls’ race and Montrose’s

Nick Coy and Sam Stashko finished third and fourth respectively to lead Montrose boys to a pair of wins.

Coy finished in 17:46 and Stashko was 11 seconds behind as the Meteors

defeated Abington Heights 25-32 and Valley View 21-38. Gabriel Wilber also finished in the top 15 with a time of 18:51. Montrose lost to North Pocono 24-33.

Elk Lake also earned a pair of wins over Valley View (25-32) and Abington Heights (26-30) as Justice Johnson and Noah Staff finished ninth and tenth place. Johnson crossed the finish line at 18:09 with Staff coming in two seconds later.  The Warriors fell to North Pocono 21-39.

Jones finished in a time of 19:21 to take individual honors while Montrose’s Hannah Perkins was fourth (20:06) and Paige Brewer was sixth (20:50) as the Lady Meteors defeated North Pocono 22-33.

They were joined by Stephanie Summerville in the top 15 placing 14th (22:34).  Abington Heights and Valley View claimed team victories over Montrose.

Jones was joined in the top 15 by teammate Sadie Bosscher who finished eighth but Elk Lake lost all three team matches. Blue Ridge also dropped three matches and placed no runners in the top 15.

At Mountain View Holy Cross’s Andrew Healey and Molly Repecki took top honors in their respective races.

In the girls cluster Mountain View’s Kathryn Long was the top local finisher placing fourth with a time of 22:29. She was joined in the top ten by teammate Genevieve Larkin who was ninth (23:45) while Scranton Prep’s Avery Tompkins finished a second behind her former Junior High teammate to finish tenth.

Holy Cross swept both Mountain View and Holy Cross.

On the boys side Austin Gow’s 18:42 was enough to earn the Susquehanna junior a fourth place finish. Teammate Val White finished tenth with a time of 19:34 as Susquehanna fell to Holy Cross (20-41) and Scranton Prep (23-36).

Mountain View placed no runners in the top ten and fell to Holy Cross (15-49) and Scranton Prep (19-42).
