Public safety building engineering plan approved

Moving forward with plans to build a Public Safety Building in New Milford Twp., the county commissioners approved the engineering and architectural fee proposal by GPI for the project.

The $965,822 fee was granted approval by the commissioners, upon review by the solicitor, at the Wednesday, Sept. 25 meeting.

Commissioner Alan Hall said the county is working to come up with plans that can be displayed.

The Public Safety Complex is proposed for construction in New Milford Twp. on 15 acres of land that was sold to the county for $1.

The complex will house the county’s 911 center, emergency management offices, and emergency operations center, training rooms, and a garage.

It will also house offices for the county coroner, county detectives and the New Milford District Magistrate’s office, as well as a courtroom.

The commissioners also approved a change order in the amount of nearly $3,062 for the roof renovation project at the county correctional facility.

The county received one bid, submitted by Johnson Controls, for the gate control project at the jail. The bid, totaling $373,479, includes the replacement of 12 doors, electronic paging and speakers, two gate controls, as well as the control room including hardware and software.

The commissioners also approved advertising a change of the regularly scheduled meeting from Wednesday, Dec. 25, to Friday, Dec. 20 at 9 a.m.

A number of personnel changes were also on the agenda, with the commissioners acting on the following:

*acknowledging the hiring of LeighAnna Overfield to the 2nd Deputy Treasurer/Tax Claim position, effective Sept. 26;

*approve the hiring of Brittany Smith to the position of Case Aide in the Dept. of Children & Youth, effective Sept. 26;

*and approved several staffing changes at the correctional facility.

The salary board approved the addition of Election Day Assistant at a rate of $100 per day with a $25 per day travel allowance to the miscellaneous compensation schedule.

The county retirement board approved a guaranteed minimum interest rate change of 3.5% for 2019; 2.5% for 2020; 2% in 2021; and 1% in 2022.
