Montrose Boro reopens Memorial ParkS

With the county in the yellow phase of the state’s reopening plan, Montrose Borough Council members convened in person Monday, June 1, socially distanced and masked in the conference room of the borough building.

The borough reopened the pavilion and playground equipment at Memorial Park on Friday, May 29. Caution tape that had been put in place around the pavilion and playground has been removed.

The public space and equipment is being sprayed twice a day – morning and afternoon – with a virus-killing chemical. Councilman Craig Reimel said it takes about 2.5-3 gallons of the virucide to complete each circuit. The borough ordered a concentrate of the liquid for use at the park.

Council hired Chris Calby as the new parking enforcement officer to regulate the metered parking spots in the borough. He will work 20 hours per week and the hours are flexible. Metered parking is in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Saturday, Sunday and holidays.  Montrose Borough observed holidays are:  New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr., Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Council also moved forward with contracting with Barry Isett and Associates Inc. as the town’s backup provider for UCC Code enforcement.

Members also gave their nod for borough solicitor Michael Briechle to attend the June 16 Zoning Hearing Board meeting regarding the proposed construction of a pavilion on property owned by the Holy Name of Mary Church.

Several members of council expressed questions and concerns about the “semi-public” use of the proposed pavilion in a residential area.
