Nicholson teen killed in Lathrop Twp. rollover crash

A Nicholson teen was killed Saturday, March 20, and another was flown by helicopter from the scene of a late night, one-vehicle crash in Lathrop Twp.

The driver, identified by police as 18-year-old Caleb Earl, was killed as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

A 14-year-old male passenger sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported by Guthrie Air to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment.

According to police, the crash took place on Bill Kostic Road, west of State Route 2003, just before 2 a.m.

Earl was traveling east on the roadway in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and the rear brakes of the vehicle activated, which then caused the car to begin to skid and he lost control of the vehicle.

The Grand Prix then began to rotate, exited the roadway and the driver’s side of the vehicle struck an embankment. The car then began to roll and continued traveling off the south side of the road before coming to rest in a field.

Both Earl and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the crash. The passenger was able to move from where he was ejected prior to the arrival of first responders.

Tpr. Taylor Smith investigated the fatal crash. He was assisted on the scene by Montrose Minute Men, Commonwealth Ambulance, Nicholson Fire Dept., Springville Fire Dept., Lake Carey Fire Dept., Guthrie Air and the Susquehanna County Coroner.
