Storm damage delays school start for Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Community Elementary School sustained water damage during a late August storm affecting numerous classrooms and pushing back the district’s school year start date.

According to a letter released to the public, water entered the building through a drain and saturated classrooms and hallways.

Repairs have begun in the school by a company specializing in water damage and restoration with a tentative completion date of Sept. 1.

That date will push the start of the school year for students to Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The letter reads: “The desire to keep all students on the same calendar, support families that have students in both school, and to allow for an efficient and effective use of the district transportation system were the deciding factors in having Sept. 5, 2023 be the official start date for all students in the district.”
