Hinds makes tennis semifinals

Montrose’s Courtney Hinds stormed through the first two rounds of the District II Class AA tennis championships at Kirby Park on Thursday before being defeated in the semifinals.

In the first round, Hinds topped MMI Prep’s Shital Patel, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second round.

Second round action saw Hinds defeat Tunkhannock’s Hope Murray, 6-1, 6-0, to head to the semifinals.

However, in the semifinals, Hinds was defeated 6-3, 6-2, by Scranton Prep’s Kendra Croker to face elimination.

Montrose’s Kayla Trieble defeated Hanover’s Marsha Geiser in the play-in round with a 6-0, 6-3 victory to move on to the first round.

After taking a victory in play-ins, Trieble was defeated in the first round by Wyoming Seminary’s Caroline Meuser, 6-1, 6-2, to be eliminated from contention.

In the first round, Elk Lake’s Cindy Good moved on after she took a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Riverside’s Liz O’Hearn.

Warrior Hunter Cole also picked up a victory in the first round as she defeated GAR’s Katelyn Karley, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Second round action, however, saw both Warriors eliminated from contention.

Good faced a 6-0, 6-0, loss from Scranton Prep’s Kendra Croker to be eliminated, while Cole took a 6-2, 6-2, loss from MMI Prep’s Gabriella Lobitz in the second round.
