Local schools supporting fight against cancer

The Coaches vs. Cancer Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter is hosting a “Suits and Sneakers Weekend” on Friday and Saturday, and schools in Susquehanna County are coming out in force to support the cause.

In addition to wearing Suits and Sneakers, local schools will sell a variety of items to raise money for Coaches vs. Cancer.

Below is an outline of what Susquehanna County schools will have going on.

Friday Night

(Girls games)

On Friday night at Lackawanna Trail, the Lady Eagles’ game at 6 p.m. will also be a benefit for Coaches vs. Cancer, where the school will sell t-shirts, bracelets and die cuts to hang in the gym.

Blue Ridge will travel to Susquehanna, where a game will take place between the two rivals starting at 6 p.m.

The Montrose Area girls’ basketball team will play against Elk Lake at home on Friday night, with action starting at 6 p.m.

Forest City will face off against Lakeland at home on Friday evening, as the games kick off at 6 p.m.

Saturday Night

(Boys games)

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Elk Lake’s boys’ basketball team at its home game against Montrose at 6 p.m. will hold a ‘Pink Out’ Game, where team members will wear pink to support the fight against cancer.

The Elk Lake Builders Club has also set up a fundraiser for Coaches vs. Cancer, selling t-shirts, wristbands and placards at the game.

Mountain View’s boys’ basketball team will play in a Coaches vs. Cancer game against Mountain View at Marywood University on Saturday. The game will be televised on Fox 56.

Throughout the game there will be a telethon for people to make donations to the cause.

Blue Ridge’s boys’ team will host Susquehanna on Friday night with concessions being sold and donations accepted to benefit the charity.

Forest City’s boys’ team will travel to Lakeland on Saturday where the two teams will battle it out to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer.
