Forced by weather, Blue Ridge hosted doubleheader basketball games on Wednesday, Feb. 1, for its Coaches vs. Cancer event.
The Lady Raiders took on Elk Lake in the first game of the evening; followed by the Blue Ridge boys hosting Montrose in the late game.
The games were dedicated in honor of former Blue Ridge Athletic Director, teacher and coach Jill Hoffman who died last year after a battle with liver cancer.
It was fitting that the three schools be gathered in one gymnasium that night. Hoffman was a graduate of Elk Lake High School.
LIAA President and Montrose AD Joe Gilhool announced that the holiday tournament would be renamed as the “Denise Reddon and Jill Hoffman Memorial Tournament.” Blue Ridge is scheduled to host the tournament in December.
Blue Ridge players Isabella Cosmello and Nick Folk presented a plaque to Hoffman’s husband and daughters who also attended the game.
Proceeds raised on Wednesday will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
