Lathrop St. principal to transfer schools

With Choconut Valley Principal Chris McComb moving into the position of superintendent at the end of the school year, his Lathrop Street counterpart is also making a move.
Lathrop Street Elementary Principal Greg Adams will transfer to take the helm of Choconut Valley.
Adams will retain his current salary and benefits package in the lateral move.
The transfer was approved by the Montrose Area School Board at the Feb. 12 meeting.
In other business the board gave its nod to the NEIU 19 operating budget of $4.3 million, of which the Montrose Area share is about $25,000.
The board also approved a preliminary expense budget for the 2018-19 school year for just over $27 million.
The board also offered up its first reading of the proposed school calendar for the upcoming school year and has made the proposed calendar available on the district website.
The proposed calendar sets a Tuesday, Aug. 28 start date for students, with teachers reporting for in-service days, Aug. 23, 24 and 27.
The tentative last day for students would be June 5, 2019; with graduation tentatively scheduled for June 15, 2019.
The district is also advertising to sell a 2005 Chevy Express AWD Cargo Van.
Several coaching and advisor position were approved by the board.
The district also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Montrose Education Association regarding a health benefits waiver for union employees who discontinue health care coverage for a bonus. They may maintain dental coverage at their own expense, and to be paid to the district.
In an addendum to the agenda, the board approved a proposed offer from Deer Park Lumbers of $94,645 to remove certain timbers from the Junior-Senior High School campus.
The Montrose Area School Board will hold their next regular workshop, immediately followed by a business meeting, on Monday, March 12, 7 p.m., at the Choconut Valley Elementary school.
