Pins, wins for MA wrestlers

The Montrose wrestling team avoided the nasty weekend weather and took down Scranton Prep, 43-36, early Saturday morning.

Meteor Brendan Kanna decked Patrick Mariotti in the final bout of the match at 138 pounds. Kanna controlled the match throughout and seized an opportunity and gained the pin at the 5:50 mark.

Montrose had already taken the lead following the bout in the prior weight class as Andrew Rosevear garnered a 13-4 major decision over Prep’s Ayden Berendt.

The Meteors earned additional points as Marc Avila pinned Prep’s Andrew Durkin in 1:57 at 182 pounds; and Bryan Ryan followed that with a pin of Luca Dennis at the 41 second mark at 195 pounds. Nick Harder also scored a pin for Montrose pin when he fell Prep’s Bradyn Genello in 2:15 at 106 pounds.

Joe Hester continued to dominate opponents with 9-3 decision over Joe Monahan.

Montrose picked up forfeit wins for Seamus Fish (220) and Justin Kelley (285).

Meteors falling in their matches to the Cavaliers were: Jacob Craige (152), Joey Burris (160), Cameron Harder (170), and Dailynn Eisenbarth (126).

Despite winning only two of the seven matches wrestled, Blue Ridge escaped with a 42-37 win over Lackawanna Trail Friday night.

Blue Ridge’s Eli Aldrich pinned Bryce VanFleet in 1:41 at 220 pounds; and Isaiah Valentine pinned Trail’s Dalton Deakin at 120 pounds in 1:32 to claim the two wins for the Raiders.

Blue Ridge picked up five forfeit wins: Nathan McArthur (126), Cole Soden (132), Adam Roe (152), Zach Conrad (160), and Tom Gudykunst claimed victories.

Several other Blue Ridge grapplers lost their individual matches. Benny Gudykunst (182) was pinned by Trail’s Colin Mulherin and Aaron Babcock fell to Trail’s Nathan Zajak at 195. Tyrell Barcero gained 6 points with a pin of Blue Ridge’s William Claussen at 285 pounds. At 113 pounds the Lions’ Adam Bluhm took 10-2 decision from Gavin Crawford, while Blue Ridge’s Jordan Williams fell to Trail’s Kody Kresswell 5-2 at 145 pounds.

Earlier in the week, Montrose also picked up a win over Trail as five Meteor grapplers earned pins in the 51-27 victory.

Montrose’s Dailynn Eisenbarth pinned Nick Maskaly at the 5:33 mark of the 126-pound match to get things started for Montrose.

Hester took care of Dalton Klinges in 1:18 at 138 pounds; and Avila wasted little time in dispatching Carter Crook in 46 seconds.

Ryan pinned Mason Zajac in 1:22 at 195 pounds, and Kelley followed at 220 with dispatch of VanFleet in 1:01.

Nick Harder earned the only non-pin victory with a 6-1 decision over Cole Henry at 106 pounds.

Rosevear (132), Kanna (145), and Cameron Harder (160) earned forfeit victories.

In a match that featured only two bouts, Elk Lake defeated Mountain View 42-18.

At 195 pounds Caleb Bennett pinned Mountain View’s Zeb Gregory in 25 seconds to lead the Warriors to victory. Mountain View’s Nathan Ofalt pinned Terrence Brozonis at the 5:10 mark of the 138-pound match. 

Elk Lake also garnered forfeit wins for Codi Bomboy (126), Todd Snyder (132), Mason Pryor (145), Thaddeus Woodhead (152), Noah Atkins (160), and Nick Canfield (285).

Mountain View’s Caylee Gregory (106, Alex Carpenetti (170), and Jermiah Schwartz (182) earned forfeit wins.
