Local players named to Dream Game roster

The 85th Scranton Lions Club Dream Game will have an impressive showing from Susquehanna County when the annual high school all-star football game kicks off on July 17.

Four local players will join Susquehanna Coach Kyle Cook on the roster for the City team as they take on the County team in the annual contest that pits graduating Seniors from schools throughout the Lackawanna Football Conference.

Susquehanna WR/DB Mason Deakin will be joined by Blue Ridge’s Adam Roe and Sam Cosmello, who compete for Susquehanna as part of the school’s co-sponsorship, and Montrose Wideout Chuck Rohan. The four will line up along side other graduating players from Dunmore, Holy Cross, Lackawanna Trail, North Pocono, Scranton, Scranton Prep, Wallenpaupack, and West Scranton.

The players are looking forward to the opportunity to play another high school football game and understand the significance of being selected.

“It was honestly an honor to be selected,” said Deakin. “The fact that I am able to go out and play another football game and play alongside some of my teammates and Coach Cook.”

“I’m honored and excited to be able to compete not only for me but also to represent my school, friends, and family in such a big game,” added Rohan.

For Roe to participate in the game has been a goal of his and he knows it will be the last time he straps on the pads. He plans to be involved in the ROTC program while in college and figured he couldn’t commit to playing at the college level.

“I’ve watched that game since Junior High and made it one of my goals,” said Roe.

Cook is coming off a season in which he led the Sabers to the District II Class 2A Championship game.
