MV surges; BR rolls on

Mountain View and Blue Ridge each won nine of ten sets to highlight the week of girls’ volleyball.

Mountain View swept Forest City behind Tasha Shay’s 20 assists and Rachel Gerfin’s eight kills.

Kelsey Rumola added seven kills for Mountain View while Forest City was led by Makayla Williams’s four kills and points. Faith Ursich added three points and four digs and Brooke Staple had seven assists.

Mountain View defeated Lackawanna Trail behind Shay’s 26 assists.

Isabel Keating added 11 aces while Gerfin registered 11 kills to help the Lady Eagle cause.

Mountain View also had a shutout of Elk Lake behind Emma Rowan’s four kills.

Shay had seven assists and Keating chipped in with four aces.

Elk Lake was led by Olivia Beasley’s seven points and Anna Comley added four points.

Hunter Heeman’s 14 points and 14 kills led Blue Ridge in their sweep of Montrose.

The junior also added seven digs and Makenzie Cook had 16 points including eight aces. Alyssa Sherwood chipped in with seven kills and Breanna Post had six digs and points.

Tierstan Newhart had three kills for Montrose and the Lady Meteors got five digs from Macey Schillinger and three blocks from Tayler Diaz.

Heeman had 18 kills in a 3-1 win over Abington Heights.

She added eight points to her effort and was aided by Allison Marshman’s 31 assists and 13 digs. Lydia Andusko chipped in with 30 digs and Sherwood had 17 points to go along with eight kills and digs.

Cook had a double-double with 11 digs and 10 kills to pace Blue Ridge in a sweep of Forest City.

Cook also added nine points including six aces and Lydia Andusko chipped in with 19 digs and Heeman added nine kills and seven points.

Staple had five points and assists to lead Forest City and Kim Graham added five digs.

The Lady Meteors were also swept by league leading Western Wayne 3-0.

Jordan Russell led the way with eight digs and Jesse Fassler chipped in with five assists and four digs.

After splitting the first two sets Dunmore pulled away from Susquehanna for a 3-1 win.

Meghan Kiernan had eight digs, seven points and five kills to lead Susquehanna and Bethany Burns chipped in with 13 points, seven kills, six blocks and five digs.

The Lady Sabers also split their first two sets against Abington Heights before falling 3-1.

Kiernan and Burns again led the way for Susquehanna. Kiernan had 12 digs, nine points, and five kills while Burns had nine points and four kills.

Susquehanna did find its way into the win column with a sweep of Montrose 3-0.

Kiernan led the way with 12 points, eight digs and seven kills. Burns chipped in with 10 points and six kills and Leah Place added five assists for the winners.

Russell had 11 points and nine digs to lead Montrose. Fassler had 16 assists and Newhart added three kills.

Elk Lake remained hunting for their first win after being swept by Dunmore 3-0.

Olivia Voll had four blocks and Anna Comley had three aces for Elk Lake.

Forest City continued their tough stretch with a 3-1 loss to Lackawanna Trail.

Staple had nine assists and Kelly had four kills while Alexis Kirchen added three aces.
