After gorgeous weekend weather in Northeast Pennsylvania local golfers were met with less than picturesque weather at the District II Championships September 30.

However, Elk Lake’s Chloe Sipe weathered the storm to finish with an 86 to capture third place in the girls Class 2A division.

“I think the bad weather helps,” said Sipe. “It makes me focus a little more.”

The Lady Warrior Sophomore was the lone local qualifier to move on to the Regional competition. Teammates Taegan Mills (94), Reese Warriner (98), and Payton LaRue (113) and the lone local boy’s competitor Elk Lake Senior Jason Mowry (85) missed the cut.

Sipe finished six strokes behind District Champion Kyleen McCance of Hanover and four behind Dunmore’s Ciera Toomey.

“We (Toomey) get along really well and we push each other,” added Sipe.

As she has most of the year Sipe was strong off the tee and Elk Lake Coach Ryan Kipar felt it was a big reason for her success.

“She’s improved so much since last year,” said Kipar. “She’s hitting her second shots well and you see the difference.”

Sipe agreed and wished that she had putted a little better throughout the day.

“My driving was definitely working for me and I was getting to the greens,” observed Sipe. “If I could have made a few more putts who knows.”

Mowry who had put together another solid season for the Warriors just picked the wrong day to have his toughest outing in his final attempt to qualify for Regionals.

“Jason struggled off the tees on about six holes,” said Kipar. “He did well to rally just had a couple rough starts.”

Sipe will golf again at Regionals on October 14 at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood.

In a match the following day Elk Lake defeated North Pocono 137-166 at Tall Pines as Sipe finished at 38 and Jenna Daye matched North Pocono’s top score with 48. Payton LaRue finished out the scoring with a 51 for the Lady Warriors.
