Friday the Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, and Montrose programs travelled to Newark Valley High School to compete in the Bob Greene Invitational.
Elk Lake’s Krista Jones and Montrose’s Hannah Perkins finished first and second to lead the 141-runner field.
Jones finished in 19:42 to claim victory and Perkins finished in 19:55 to lead Montrose to a fifth-place finish in the 20-team field.
Sadie Bosscher from Elk Lake joined Jones and Perkins in the top five with a run of 20:49 to claim fifth.
Paige Brewer (12th/21:25), Stephanie Summerville (28th/22:34), Lizzie Chidester (45/23:25) and Annika Bixby (/51st/23:24) finished out the scoring for the Lady Meteors. Maggie Nebzydoski finished 107th for Montrose.
Elk Lake finished eighth with Jones and Bosscher leading the way. Rounding out the scoring for Elk Lake were Molly McGlynn (60th/24:52), Jessie Noldy (110th/27:33), and Ashlynn Berry (119th/28:30).
Also competing for Elk Lake were Emma Chotkowski, Lilly Struzierri, and Jenny Bollinger.
Blue Ridge finished a point behind Elk Lake led by Fiore’s 38th place finish in 23:02. She was aided by Cameron Robinson (53rd/23:58), Lily Bleck (56th/24:25), Kayleen Conklin (58th/24:51), and Holly Geyer (79th/25:59). Ashley Tomasacci also competed for Blue Ridge.
Montrose finished third out of 23 teams in the boys’ varsity division. Nicholas Coy was the top local finisher placing 14th with a time of 18:01 in the field of 178 runners.
Blue Ridge’s Jack Condron joined Coy in the top 20 with a run of 18:10 to place 19th.
Accounting for Montrose’s scoring was Gabriel Wilber (21st/18:15), Sam Stashko (32nd/18:39), Cody Leonard (42nd/18:49), and Nick Harder (62nd/19:11).
Also competing for the Meteors were Jonathen Lyden and James Bixby.
Elk Lake finished 14th led by Justice Johnson’s 26th place finish in a time of 18:28. Aiding in the scoring were Jeremy Quinnan (38th/18:44), Dylan Way (49th/18:55), Matt Miller (75th/19:33), and Noah Atkins (138th/21:28). Thaddeus Woodhead also competed for the Warriors.
Condron was joined in the scoring for 19th place by Brandon Gentile (102nd/20:11), Duncan Geyer (123rd/20:40), Ryan Stallings (149th/22:02), and Zach Randall (150th/22:05). Griffon Whitehead also ran for Blue Ridge.
In the Junior High Divisions Montrose’s Nathan Sinkovich outpaced 206 other runners to capture individual honors in the Modified Boys Race and lead the younger Meteors to a fifth-place finish.
Montrose’s Logan Birchard finished 11th and Pat McComb was 25th as Montrose placed three in the top 25. Blue Ridge’s Max Ksenich was 22nd to help Blue Ridge finish 14th in the team standings.
On the girls’ side Montrose’s Daegan Giannone placed fourth among the 143 runners as Montrose finished ninth and Blue Ridge was tenth.
Other locals finishing in the top 30 were Blue Ridge’s Emma Piechocki (14th) and Olivia Phillips (29th) and Elk Lake’s Layla Weaver (20th) and Hanna Howell (28th).
