NM Boro ok’s prelim budget

New Milford Borough Council offered up its preliminary budget for 2020 with funds earmarked for several projects.

The budget contains over $135,000 for the borough’s portion of the cost of the Church Street bridge project; money for the proposed sidewalk project was also included, as was $100,000 for streets and $75,000 for the pool.

The borough also added two paid holidays – Columbus Day and Veterans Day – for employees receiving holiday pay.

The proposed budget will be advertised prior to its final adoption.

The Church Street bridge project is estimated to cost about $2.7 million, with the borough responsible for about $135,000 of that total.

Council members accepted the resignation of Chad Drumm from his seat, and thanked him for his service. They then appointed Simon Frailey to fill the vacancy.

Frailey is a candidate for a borough council seat and his name appears on ballot for the upcoming election.

There will be a hearing on a proposed change to the zoning map on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the borough office.

If approved by council, the change would extend the commercial district to the property where the “old school” is located on the corner of Church and Jackson streets. The property currently has a conditional use zoning permit allowing for commercial activity.

Upcoming events in New Milford include the Parade of Lights, on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m.; with the parade line-up at 6 p.m.

Santa in the Park will be held a week early this year, on Saturday, Nov. 23, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Midtown Park.
