A Freightliner hauling natural gas crashed last week in Forest Lake Township closing down the road into the morning commute on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
According to police, driver Alison Mayes, 28, of Montrose, was traveling north and came upon a curve in the roadway. As Mayes attempted to negotiate the curve to the right, she lost control of the vehicle.
Police said Mayes could not correct the trailer, and the vehicle tipped over onto its driver’s side in the southbound lane.
On the scene, Mayes reported minor injuries.
Montrose EMS, and Rush and United Fire Companies assisted police on the scene.
The Susquehanna County Emergency Management Agency was also on the scene to provide assistance for hazmat support due to the vehicle carrying natural gas.
The crash occurred just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday night. The road was closed between Lake Hill Rd. and Kane Rd. until Wednesday morning.
Earlier this year, Xpress Natural Gas opened a compressed natural gas fueling station in Forest Lake Twp.
Reports indicate the station would fuel up to 100 trailers daily to deliver CNG to the northeastern United States.
Tpr. Christopher Mitchell investigated the crash.
