Bogus burglary report leads to fraud charge

A Pottstown woman faces charged after she allegedly pawned nearly $40,000 worth of jewelry she had reported stolen in Bridgewater Twp.

Peggy Gregory, 53, reported a burglary at her Fernheim Rd., Bridgewater Twp. residence on Jan. 6, 2016.

She reported that a total of $37,381 worth of jewelry had been taken.

Pennsylvania State Police investigators discovered that in the fall of 2017, Gregory pawned the jewelry she had reported as stolen at a Pottstown pawn shop.

Insurance fraud and theft charges were filed against Gregory in Montrose District Court by Tpr. Girard Dempsey.

She was arraigned on Friday, May 3, by Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Hollister and released on unsecured bail. Gregory was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Monday, May 6.
