Lady Sabers, EL coast to victory

Susquehanna used big first quarter to propel its way to a 59-35 win over Mountain View.

Makenzie Steele had six points and all five starters scored as the Lady Sabers jumped out ahead 16-5.

Steele and Alexandria Iveson each scored four in the second quarter as Susquehanna extended its lead to 29-14 by intermission.

In the third quarter Taylor Huyck erupted for 15 points including three treys as the Lady Sabers put the game away with a 22-8 advantage.

Huyck led the way for Susquehanna with 21 points and Steele finished with 14 while Iveson chipped in with eight. Abby Neri led Mountain View with 15 points and Morgan Hammon added 15.

Elk Lake shut out Forest City in the first quarter and allowed a single field goal in the second as the Lady Warriors breezed to a 54-25 win over Forest City.

Destiny McCarey and Tamara Voda each scored four points as Elk Lake led 13-0 after the first quarter. Mercedes Zajaczkowski scored seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Warriors extended their lead to 28-2 at halftime.

Bella Pleska hit a pair of threes in the third quarter as the Forest City offense came alive while five different players scored for Elk Lake as the Lady Warriors took a 38-12 lead into the fourth.

Zajaczkowski finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Elk Lake while Krista Jones added nine and Voda finished with eight. Pleska led Forest City with 12.

Old Forge used a 38-13 advantage over the middle quarters to defeat Montrose 67-35 in a Lackawanna League Division III/IV crossover game.

Old Forge’s Olivia Cuillo scored eight points in the first quarter built a 16-10 lead. Haley Pompey scored six for Montrose.

In the second stanza Old Forge extended their lead to double digits as Cuillo and Lindsey Welsh combined for 12 of the Lady Devils’ 13 points. Chalice Guyette had five of the Montrose nine as Old Forge led 29-19 at intermission.

Old Forge broke the game open in the third quarter as Cuillo and Makayla Parker each scored eight points and the Lady Devil defense held Montrose to two fielg goals to lead 54-23.

Mya Snyder had four points in the fourth quarter for Montrose as they were outscored 13-12 for the final tally.

Pompey led Montrose with 12 points and Ciara Hundley added seven.

Lackawanna Trail scored 16 points in each of the first two quarters to gain momentum in their 58-34 win over Blue Ridge.

Trailing 32-14 at the half Blue Ridge had nine points in the third quarter but Trail scored 14 to double up the Lady Raiders 46-23 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lilly Bleck led Blue Ridge with 16 points while Madison Gelinger chipped in with nine.
