Boys soccer wrap-up

Mountain View

The Mountain View Eagle boys’ soccer team took a 6-0 shutout victory over Scranton at home on Saturday after it tied a game 2-2 with North Pocono on Wednesday evening.

On Saturday, Colby Mickloicke scored a goal at 10:00 off an assist from Colin Davis, and two minutes later, Colby Thomas scored with an assist from Dylan Thomas at 12:00.

The Eagles scored a third first half goal off C. Thomas with an assist from Mickloicke at 38:00.

In the second half, Davis scored with an assist from Dan McWhirr at 45:00, followed by a third goal from C. Thomas with an assist from Nick Jarrow at 52:00.

Logan Mack then capped off the game with a goal assisted by McWhirr at 69:00.

Mountain View had 28 shots on goal at six corner kicks while goalie Chris Herman had five saves.

Against North Pocono, Mountain View got on the board first with a goal from C. Thomas at 38:55, that was quickly followed up with a North Pocono goal at 30:55.

In the second half, C. Thomas scored a second goal at 30:40, before North Pocono again scored at 14:30, to bring the game to 2-2.

Mountain View shot 20 at the goal and had 11 corners while Hermann had 14 saves.

Elk Lake

The Elk Lake boys’ soccer team defeated West Scranton, 3-0, on the road Saturday, but faced a tough loss in overtime to Western Wayne on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

On Saturday, Cody Fransen scored Elk Lake’s first goal off an assist from Tory Newhart at 10:37 in the first half, before Joey Woolcock with scored at 24:04 in the first half to make it 2-0.

After the break, Matt Cuomo knocked in a goal at 70:15 off an assist from Woolcock to boost the Warriors to the 3-0 win.

Elk Lake had 12 shots on goal and six corners while goalie Nick Dudock had three saves.

Against Western Wayne, Elk Lake got on the board first with a goal at 23:08 in the first half from Tory Newhart with an assist from Wilson.

In the second half, Western Wayne tied things up with a goal at 54:18 and took the lead with a second goal at 76:03.

However, the Warriors tied the game up at 78:26 with a goal from Fransen with an assist from Tanner Ryan.

In overtime however, the Warriors gave up a goal to the Wildcats four minutes in to take the loss.

Elk Lake had 14 shots on goal and four corners while Dudock had eight saves in goal. 

Forest City

The Forest City boys’ varsity soccer team took a 4-1 win over Blue Ridge on Saturday, a 3-0 victory at home against Dunmore on Wednesday, and a 4-1 victory from Mid Valley on Tuesday evening.

On Saturday, Forest City’s Ryan Long scored at 11:17 to kick hings off before Adam Dix would add a goal off a penalty kick at 40:00.

In the second half, Blue Ridge got on the board with an own goal from Forest City to make it 2-1.

However, David Cavaleri scored off a penalty kick at 58:18, and Mitchel Gobin knocked in a goal at 78:20 to give the Foresters the win.

Forest City took 16 shots on goal and four corners while Zack Sosnowski had six saves. Blue Ridge had six shots on goal and four corners while goalie Tama Galu-Edgar had 12 saves.

Facing Dunmore, Forest City had a Jake Fedak goal at 24:22 off an assist from Ryan Long to get on the board 1-0 in the first half.

After halftime, the Foresters scored with a Wayde Loomis goal, assisted by Long, at 62:03 and capped it off with a Cavaleri goal at 65:20.

The Foresters had 15 shots on goal and five corners while goalie Sosnowski had eight saves.

On Tuesday, Kevin Swartz got scoring started off at 3:00 in the first half, followed by teammate Cavalieri off an assist from Loomis at 15:00.

Loomis then knocked in a goal of his own at 23:00 off an assist from Gogan.

At 31:00, Loomis then scored a second goal with an assist from Cavalieri to make it 4-0.

Mid Valley struck with a goal at 70 minutes in the second half, but couldn’t piece together a comeback.

Forest City had 12 shots on goal and four corners while Sosnowski and Matt Hardman-Zimmerman combined for seven saves.

Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge Raiders picked up a 2-1 victory over Mid Valley on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

The Raiders got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Nick Vales at 7:40, and made it 2-0 at 8:29 with a goal from Greg Stonier, assisted by Vales.

In the second half, Mid Valley tried to come back with a goal at 57:35 but couldn’t overtake the early Raider lead.

The Raiders took 12 shots on goal and had four corner kicks while goalie Brandon Rafferty had six saves.

Montrose

The Montrose boys’ soccer team took a 7-2 loss from the Holy Cross team at home on Wednesday evening.

Holy Cross scored first at 2:53 in the first half, before Montrose’s Lory Adams off an assist from Ryan Ochse, would tie the score up at one apiece.

However, the Crusaders scored four consecutive unanswered goals in the first half to make it 5-1 at half time.

After the break, Montrose came back to strike with an Adams goal with an assist from Ochse at 47:09 to make it 5-2.

However, Holy Cross scored two more goals to close the game at 7-2.

Montrose had eight shots on goal and five corners while goalie Danny Simonds had 11 saves.
